I am a self-taught sculptor, born in London, raised and based in Swindon, Wiltshire.
My sculpting career started when I visualised the unlimited potential of a single universal form mated with the diversity of wood. Taking time out to explore the medium confirmed that this would be a life-long journey.
I work exclusively in sustainably sourced wood, typically discarded and unloved. Usually, the most unlikely of typesand sources providing the most interesting of outcomes.
The Head form is my focal point for creativity - instantly recognisable with potential to evoke a deep subconscious response. Always seeking to uncover personality, character and soul through abstract representation.
I take a minimalist approach to planning, preferring form to emerge. I embrace mistakes and imperfections alike. Once a glimpse of the potential is offered, only then does the outcome become crystalised.
I’m passionate about how my work should be experienced. I think it necessary for a piece to be held and engaged withfully even at risk of incident. Only then is their opportunity to make a personal connection – the observer becomes a participant.
On view is a series of 15 Heads, representing my earliest body of work.
